Perfect for green/white tea if you don’t mind a little rust but I’d prefer a set that comes with cups,
I picked one of these from the Japanese House at Disney World’s Epcot Center. I had a ceramic set for a couple of years already and wanted a second set for the office. So far, it hasn’t disappointed. The set is solid, heavy, cast iron with a nice coating. It stayed rust-free for the first year but this is no longer the case – see note blow. Needless to say, it hasn’t passed unnoticed at the office and I already know someone who ordered one of these after sharing a cup of white tea.
I am using it for brewing white tea Revolution Tea White Chai Tea, Organic, 15-Count Pyramid Teabags (Pack of 6). My boss, who lives in Oxford, England and is a life-long tea drinker became an instant convert to both white tea and to using this pot. Instead of this one, I’d order a set that comes with cups to keep it consistent. The little iron cups can get quite hot if you pour hot tea in them (watch out) but they look cool and you should not end up with burned lips if you are reasonably careful.
For a complete set such as this Japanese Cast Iron Tea Pot Tea Set /Dragon Fly Black, search Amazon for ‘iron teapot’ or ‘Japanese iron teapot’.
CAST IRON vs. CERAMIC
– heavy vs. light
– breaks/chips the floor if you drop it vs. breaks itself when dropped
– can get very hot vs. not so hot
– iron handle is indestructible vs. bamboo handle can break and will have to be replaced
– gets rusty after a while vs. does not rust
– usually has groovy decorations vs. usually smooth
______________________________
Note: Two years of use caused for much of the inside coating to peel off so, if you want to keep your teapot for much longer and you can’t tolerate rust you’ll be better off with a ceramic set. The little manual that comes with the set states that a little rust in your tea is okay but… de gustibus.

Good tea pot,
This is a good teapot, perfect size, good finish (better than the colorful ones), sturdy, and the lid fits perfectly. If you are looking for an authentic, hand made Japanese Tetsubin then this isn’t it, and for the price that’s not what you should expect.
It isn’t true that tea will stay hot for several hours, about 1 hour is more accurate, not a big deal considering this is a 10 oz. pot.
I normally drink tea in small cups and can get 4 servings per steep. It is very convenient at dinner time when I want some tea but don’t want to make a monster size pot of tea. I can steep a full pot and get 2 cups for me, 2 for my wife, then I can re-steep the leaves a 2nd time after dinner and get the same amount. If you are someone used to drinking larger amounts of tea per serving (say, 8 oz cups or so)and want a tea pot that will brew enough tea for a few servings then this is not going to be your best option, you might be better off getting a 32 to 48 0z. pot. If you drink strong tea in small cups and want multiple servings for 1 or 2 people then this little teapot is the ticket.
My only concern is the infuser basket; there is nothing wrong with it but it doesn’t look like replacements are available should you need one. Not a big deal because you can still brew tea with the leaves inside the tea pot, but the infuser basket is a nice convenience.
In short, a good teapot depending on your specific needs. If you want an authentic hand made tetsubin you will pay several times more., I’d say this is more of a functional tea pot rather than a collector’s piece.

This cheerful little tea pot is made of ceramic. Probably will be used for decoration only, but it is adorable!
